As Good As It Getz.

AGH! Stupid @!#$!@#%! EDSA!

I drove my Philippine Hyundai Getz on EDSA today to get to work because it’s faster. Everything was going fine - I was singing praises and everything, specifically Myron Butler’s version of Unrestrained when, out of nowhere underneath the EDSA-Shaw intersection - the infamous ilalim - I ran over a metal canister.

Now what the heck a metal canister was doing in the middle of the capital’s busiest highway is beyond me, but my Hyundai Getz ran over it at around 60KPH.

CLANG!

I waited for the inevitable sound of flat tire, but heard nothing. Regardless, I decided to pull over and examine the damage. I held my breath and saw this.

Fudge.

Anyway, I took my Hyundai Getz to Hyundai Fort Bonifacio, where the service is awesome and rates are reasonable, for a look-see. Ever-smiling Jay Doria, Hyundai Global City’s resident service adviser, took one look at it and said the damage was due to a loose hubcap cover, and that we may not need to replace the hubcaps. God, I hope so. I don’t have PHP15K for new hubcaps! :(

Meanwhile, score yet another point for the service of Autohub Group. Jay was understanding and calming, despite my hysterics. Their number one priority is after-sales service, and that’s why I trust only Autohub.

Hi there sir!I had a slightly similar situation (in terms of the hubcaps only) It got deformed but luckily I somebody to put it back to its original form.

For the hubcaps, are you saying that 15k’s the price for all new hubcaps? that’s insane. I got a contact from ph.getzclub, Ram, I can share his number to you in private (ym me @ csilevel1) and he said he can replace OEM hubcaps for only P800 each. I personally have not bought nor saw what he’s selling, but that is a good alternative.

I am no expert, but if the problem is over and beyond the hubcaps, then spending a little is not too much considering the safety of your family. :)

    Take care bro! Keep blogging!
You’re one of the reasons why I bought a Getz in the first place. My ride’s name is Sparky, a black 1.1 looker. :)

Hi Malcoxx! Thanks for writing in, and for your kind words. :) Post me a photo of your Sparky sometime! Have you done anything special with him? :D

Here’s an update: my tires are fine. Like you, it was only deformed - praise God! - and they hammered it back into their original shape and position.

Thanks for that heads-up from Ram. He’s got all kinds of Getz goodies, and I’d have contacted him if I needed a new hubcap. The PHP15K was coming from the perspective that I might actually need new rims, and the rims I had my eye on - these gorgeous silver alloy rims at Autohub, and also available along Evangelista Street in Pasay - cost PHP15K.

We, of course, need to invest in quality for our cars, because we sow what we reap. That’s why I always get my car - and the previous Toyota Revo - checked up at the original casa because it’s better for the car - and its subsequent resale value.

Thanks for writing in, I really appreciate it! Keep on swinging back the website every so often.

My pix are parked in the ph.getzclub rides forum. :) nothing special yet done on Sparky. No budget yet! Hehehehe. I do have the same handle there.

I might try to upgrade to leather seats and your blog about them looks good. Also, do you mind pointing me out on how to start blogging? Sites and tips…please do email it to me if you have the time. dgr8malcoxx@yahoo.com

    More power bro!

    Hi There,

I do share the same interest both in car make and model. I have the 1.5 oil burner instead. I enjoy reading thru your site, as you make your personal thoughts and experiences with “Gina”. I do have some for myself but I just share it with the “wifey” who seems bored to death, and wonders in amazement on how I can stand looking over my Diesel engine bay for hours =). That said I have come to notice a presistent “ticking” sound that I am afraid is caused by an either a defective/worn relese bearing or fork. I was to ask you if you are to guage how technical the service at Global City that they will be able to confirm my steadily growing suspicions with my clutch system? Or maybe if you can shoot to me the contact number of the dealership, and contact person, I would appreciate it. Keep up the fun and entertaining site you got here. God bless.

Hi Juan Pablo, thanks for writing in!

I think they’re pretty good at finding the nitty gritty details. At my last checkup, they said something in my brake system was close to being worn out, and they were going to replace it while it was still on warranty. Color me jaded, but I think most service centers would wait until it was worn out or out of warranty, then replace it, and these guys didn’t. So I’d give it a shot.

(I emailed you their contact information, BTW.)

Keep on dropping by, and God superbless ya too.

    Hi Sir,

My wife and I are also torn between buying a Toyota vios (1.3) or a hyundai getz (1.4 MT) considering that our budget for a this new car is 600k max.

What are important for us is that the car is…
    1. suitable for long driving
    2. =/< 600K
    3. Fuel Efficient
    4. has good reviews from previous owners

Please help. This is our first major investment together using hard earned money.

Thanks a lot and hope to hear from you. Your advices count!

    RJ
