Hyundai Getz 20,000km checkup
I took my Hyundai Getz, Gina, to Hyundai Global City, the Fort Bonifacio Hyundai center, for her 20,000km checkup. If you recall, Gina’s 15,000km checkup cost PHP2,900. This time around, however, the estimate was much higher: PHP8,816.00. I asked why this was so, and was told that the 20,000km checkup is a significant milestone in the Hyundai Getz’s history, and parts replacements would be necessary to keep your Hyundai Getz in tiptop shape.
Of course, you don’t compromise quality for your car. You scrimp on your Hyundai Getz, it’ll come back to haunt you. So I said, okay, please do what you need to do. The total amount of work it takes to run through a Hyundai Getz for 20,000km is 6.7 hours, which means you should bring your Hyundai Getz in early to ensure it’s ready for you by 5PM. (In my case, I don’t mind, since I brought her in coded; she’ll be out by 7PM, and the cashier at Hyundai Global City will wait until 10 for you if she has to. Don’t make her, though.)

Hi Gann,
PHP 8K for checkup? i think im gonna go crazy when i reach 20,000 km. That’s almost half of my comprehensive insurance.
Ive read what happens for the checkup, since your gonna pay em 8k cold cash… ask them to wash the engine and make it look like new while they are at it disassembling parts. Looking at your sparkling clean engine surely will make you feel better after losing 8k.
I think you got ripped-off. Casa people will tell you to replace parts even if it is still fine. That is why I dont go to casa because this people are fraud. I know this by experience, I brought my car in a casa once and was shocked how they suggested to replace some parts when some of them are just months old. As they say, “nanganganak and sira dyan”. They quoted 10K to fix everything. I then went to my good old talyer with Mang Conrad in Marcos Hiway and it only cost me 1.5K.
Wow 8K for a gets? that is too much. These people are just fooling you.
Gentlemen, thank you for your comments.
I, too, felt it was ridiculously expensive. I could take Gina to any repair shop, but I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing that I saved a few pesos on a certain car part, only to have it conk out on me a few months later in between checkups. Then I suffer the inconvenience of taking it to the shop, at gagastos din naman ako. I’d rather have it replaced when the car manufacturer, who knows the car better than anyone, says it’s best to be replaced.
At the end of the day, going to the legit Hyundai mechanics is still better for my car. When the time comes to sell the car, original parts and service will always result in higher resale value. There’s value in knowing that the vehicle was handled by the folks who are best in the know. Toyota says the same thing: original parts, original service, better resale value. Would you buy a second-hand car knowing that it was touched by all kinds of people from different repair shops? I don’t know where the talyer people get their parts; I don’t know if they’re brand new or used; all I have is their word.
I pay top peso expecting quality that is top peso. When I don’t get that quality, I tell people on the blog. That’s the best I can do, and that’s what I’m happiest with. Thanks!
Hi ganns, i’d been lurking in this site for quite some time. Honestly, the items and conversations are worth reading. Plus, I get the feeling of a relaxed sense of conversation whenever I read anything here. I think it has something to do with the thoughtfulness and sincerity in every post and replies. If you have Gina, I also have “Cool” for more than 2 months now. And since we’re just starting, I don’t expect a drastic FE improvement as “breaking in” should be observed.
Now going to my question; Have the casa given you the old or defective parts? What were these items and have you seen any wear-outs? 8K is a great value but getting great out of it is more than worth it.
Godbless!!!
Hi Norman! Thank you so much for your kind words; I do try my best to welcome all fellow Getz owners (as well as future ones, haha). Send me a picture of “Cool!” That’s a great name.
To answer your question, HGC always gives me the replaced parts. As a matter of fact, Gina’s trunk right now contains several replaced parts (that I’ll enumerate later). It’s happened in the past that they’ve replaced parts that have wear and tear, but not to the point of total uselessness; they replace the parts while they’re still under the warranty so I don’t have to pay extra.
To date, I’ve never paid for anything outside of warranty that wasn’t required by the mileage checkups. (The only adjustments made to the car were a horn replacement and a headlight smoking [that voided the headlight warranty; did that at my own risk]).
Thanks for passing by; I do hope we can chat regularly.
Just curious, if you have you car checked up in a talyer would it void the cars warranty? I’ve checked the price list of all the mileage checkups and it will only get worse in some points
I could ask the people in the casa but I’m pretty sure their answer would be 1 sided.
Hi Ronald!
Kung check-up, I don’t know. There are some great shops out there, like Rapide, for instance, who do topnotch work, and have all the papers and connections to prove it. If I were to have my car checked up outside of Hyundai for any reason, I’d go to Rapide.
I know for a fact that for as long as you have something cosmetic done on your car that is not done by the original car manufacturer, it can void the warranties on that particular car part. It was a risk I took with my headlights, for instance; it voided my headlight warranty. (Said warranty clauses apply for Toyota and Hyundai; don’t know about the other brands.) When I had Gina’s horn changed, I had Hyundai do it to play safe; they didn’t mind I bought the horn elsewhere as long as they did the installing.
The same clause follows for wheels, sound systems, and anything that is electrical in nature.
In cases where it’s possible that you have something done that’s less likely to be caught, you could choose to NOT declare it. I wouldn’t recommend it primarily because there’s a good chance the folks at your car manufacturer will find out anyway when they examine the car (fake piyesa? Signs of tampering when your records show that the particular car piece has not been examined by any mechanic from your car manufacturer?), and your integrity may be put into question.
Basta ako, always at the official talyer. I’ll spend more - for service I can get at cheaper prices elsewhere, I know - but I sleep better at night knowing my parts are original, the labor is endorsed by Hyundai, and anything that goes wrong (outside of my control) can’t really be blamed on me because the only ones who touched it were folks from Hyundai.
Hi Ganns, its me again. Thanks for the speedy response and the warm welcome! I think that you are a very satisfied customer if the parts replaced were covered by the warranty. Imagine new parts to keep Gina in tiptop shape without paying nothing! That’s great and I agree that other casa’s wouldn’t do that. They’ll probably say “Normal lang yan” or “OK lang yan”. Being a technical person, I can accept that comment but they should give a clear explanation. Else, I’ll keep coming back to them if I feel uncomfortable with an annoying thing not present before.
On the 8K matter, I’ve noticed the items “replaced” and I supposed that you bought these form HGC. These could be 10 items or pieces which I think explains why you paid much. I sense that you and HGC have already established a good relationship coz they value you and give a special concern to Gina. But if HGC can allow you to bring your own genuine replacement parts, I strongly believe that you can save more. Just a cent of thoughts.
See yah!
That’s a great point, Norman, but I wouldn’t know where to buy these genuine replacement parts. *grin*
Hello!
You can check the owner’s manual service interval
section if these expensive items are really needed:
- Replace air conditioner filter
- Replace engine coolant (20,000km)
Aircon filter if it’s the plastic screen type,
can be cleaned and re-used, just like in the
household aircons.
Engine coolant usually lasts for 50K-100K KMs
or 3-5 years.
Usually, it’s better to check the owner’s manual
service interval chart to see what parts the
Hyundai mother company really recommends to be
replaced. That way you can tell the dealer what
to replace at the proper intervals.
Sometimes the dealers add extra items needlessly.
Maganda sana may price breakdown ka din ng parts & labor. =)
–barny
That’s very sound advice, Barny. Thanks.
Ganns admits he’s lost his manual. *grin*
There is a breakdown when you have your work done at HGC. I retype based on the estimates they give me.
“Sometimes the dealers add extra items needlessly.” The possibility may be there. But what if they don’t? Our climate is different from Korea’s; the heat here may necessitate a faster turnover for coolant. The filter may not be the plastic screen type, indicating the need for a replacement filter (not frame).
My stance is simple: go with what the experts, as endorsed by the mother company, recommend. I may lose a few thousand bucks, but that’s worth the peace of mind, IMHO. Your advice, however, is really, really sound. I should bring it up the next time I visit HGC. Thanks for that, Barny. It’s much appreciated.
Genuine replacement parts, I can’t remember the shop’s name. But it is definitely in “GetzClub” (of which I am a member) thread. Unfortunately, our beloved site had been offline for 2 weeks now.
The trick is, buy a couple consumable parts there if you have extra bucks to avoid the hassle of coming back and forth every PMS schedule. Though it may be too late, I’ll send you an update after I learn the name and place of this shop. Never been there myself since Cool is just a baby, only on his 1.5K odometer reading.
More power to you!
I know! There’s a void in my daily online lurking life with the Getz Club offline.
Please do let me know about that place that sells those parts. I’ll add it to the roll call on my sidebar. Thanks!
Hi Ganns, I found this out in Hyundai Auto Club’s thread.
SEIRING ( 15 G. ARANETA ave near SM sta mesa side of G. Araneta ave).
You can confirm the shop thru this telephone number which was also from the club’s thread - 4141180.
Oh by the way, might want to visit HACP. It has a Getz forum and we’re trying to gather our GetzClub members there to continue sharing our ideas while our mother site is unavailable.
GodBless….
Thanks Norman! Pasend naman ng link.
It is http://hyundaiclubph.proboards25.com/index.cgi
hi guys !I Want to share with you my 1st 1000km service at Hyundai manila bay. I got there 830am. waited for about 30min and was then told to leave my getz unit and just pick it up by 2pm. They didnt even invite me to stay and check my unit while its being serviced…When I get back they didnt even say a word, no advise….parang di tuloy ako kuntento. Parang change oil lang yata ang habol nila kasi may bayad.. I was expecting they will have it car washed…. but i went home so disappointed….. Ganun ba talaga ang magpaservice?(Fyi this is my first car) Anyway, Can you guys recommend a service center nearby las pinas area? Yung maasikaso and see to it that they explain everything to their customers… gusto ko ung may concern at aalagaan ang unit ko…Thanks!
Hi Bong, you can try Hyundai Dasmarinas Cavite. Its along Aguinaldo Hiway. If you’re near Alabang, you may take the Daang Hari route. Once you see the Aguinaldo Hi-way, turn right (Dasmarinas bound). After a kilometer, you will find their branch on the left side.
I would say that the service guys here won’t hide anything from you.
I had my 1K PMS there. I got there around 8 am (office hours) and was 2nd in the list. My unit was entertained right away since there are 3 or 4 mechanics. You can go inside and watch what the mechanic is doing. If you are a little bored of waiting, you can have coffee for free as you watch TV in their waiting area. I got out after 2 hours of PM and carwash. Within the 2 hours, I’ve seen everything they’ve done including the valve clearance checking and adjustment.
What’s important to me is I get to ask and talk with their Service Head (Mr. Rico)on my queries. Like “Normal ba na….?” If they think that the items I am saying needs to be checked, no problem. They’ll do it aside from the PM. Most of all, they’ll give you advise of what’s best for your car.
I’m satisfied with their service. Not to mention, their service rate is lower than the Manila based service centers. One thing I didn’t like though is the quality of car wash they’ve done. Nevertheless, I still appreciate it since its free.
Hope this helps. You can also try Hyundai Global. Ganns is recommending this branch.
Man good for you, mine was given a price quote of 11k for my Getz CRDI.
The day ended with a swipe from my CC for a recomputed grand total of 9400php. I was given a discount. My Service Center is at Marcos High Way. Service is all fine, with me watching as they work on my car. Gosh! those Diesel Fuel filters are really expensive. The 9400php did not include the oil, I bring in my own choice of juice to feed my oil burner. The casa offers Shell lubes, but I have always used the Mobil Delvac MX brand. Got it from my Dad who had no issues putting in his Pajero.
Safe driving to all.
Hey Juan Pablo!
Thank you so very much for this information. Now diesel-fueled Getz owners have a great referral place for their tune-ups plus an idea of how much it’ll cost.
Awesome! Thanks again!
Ganns,
When they (Casa) drained and replaced the engine coolant of your Gina… Did you ask what was the coolant brand that was used? I do know that most mix Coolant concentrate with hard tap water. Many manufacturers recommend against this. I just wanted to add that I brought my own Pre-Mixed Prestone Coolant. 6 liters is what it takes to fill my car with. I guess Im just trimming the chances of my engine cooling system to not serving its purpose suddenly. Diesels do not take engine overheats well, unlike Petrol engines.
Just wanting to add to my previous message. Now Im recouping my costs. That is why Im left to sitting at home in front of the computer. My Pockets are hollow. =)
Cheers Everyone!
Hi,
Of course the dealership charges you for 6.7hrs labour (as recommended by Hyundai), but 6.7hrs is a long long time. Any honest mechanic will tell you that the activities specified for a 20,000km service would take 2-3hrs, max!! The 19 items listed as ‘inspect’ would take no more than 30 minutes. An oil / filter change with a car on a hoist is 15 minutes. Replace four easy to get to spark plugs? 10 minutes?? No more than that for sure. Just think about it. These guys have all the right tools, the training, lubricants dispensed by guns, the hoist etc.. 6.7 hours?? No way.
This is how the dealers make their big profits. Not on the sale of the car, but on the genuine parts and their dealership servicing following the sale.
Don’t despair though!! They do the same thing here. But in Australia, if you chose to get your new car serviced outside the dealership, and according the handbook (and genuine parts are used), you do not void your new car warranty.
I should add though, I always use the dealership for servicing when I have new car under warranty.
=:-)
